“Have you ever had an answer to prayer that was so clear it was as if God sent a registered letter? For me, this happened about two years ago. I had hit a point of despair with my finances. While my family was not living extravagantly (we had gotten by with one car for several years), we were living beyond our means. Every week we got further and further behind and over the years the debt really added up. Because my debt payment consumed most of my paycheck, not only did I not see a light at the end of the tunnel, I couldn’t see any light at all. My simple prayer was “Help! I can’t figure this out on my own!”
At a sewing fashion show of all places, I ran into Carey a few days later (our daughters were in a sewing class together). I don’t remember exactly how I shared my situation with Carey, but I do remember his response, “I think I can help you.” He was right.
Carey is the Master Yoda of personal finance (“spending too much, you are”). His simple, non-judgmental wisdom and accountability have given me financial discipline and trained me to be intentional with my finances. When in doubt, we have a saying at our house “WWCD” (What Would Carey Do)?
One of the true joys has been to see my children learning good habits with their money. My daughter, who just graduated from high school, manages her money using the same principles and tools Carey has taught me. She has made several large purchases while managing to save (and invest) thousands of dollars.
Since working with Carey, my consumer debt is down about 20% with a plan to have the majority paid off in the next four years. We’ve gone from one car to four (God graciously provides – two of our cars were given to us). While I’m far from perfect, Carey knows this more than anyone; the despair from debt has been replaced by the joy of God’s provision.”
