Diana: “I left MBA school with 6-figures in debt that revolved for a decade, until the Lord led me to Dave Ramsey. Financial Peace University was the education to get me out of debt and save. Things were going great financially. Then in September 2019, I met my Jason who had $164,000 in school debt. I showed him how he could be debt free in less than five years and begin saving for retirement. I was proud of myself for miraculously documenting all our expenses our first month married. I showed my masterpiece to Jason, and he was like a deer in the headlights, ‘you got a graph for that?’”
Jason: “Diana was frustrated after four years of trying to bring me on-board to a budget. Unfortunately, I’ve never had an interest in anything financial. There was an underlying trust issue of me coming from a family history of borrowing and spending and her background of frugality and tracking every penny. The less I interacted, the more Diana stressed.”
Diana: “It was overwhelming. I decided to invest in the YNAB App. There were pieces I didn’t understand, and I needed help – especially convincing Jason how to get more involved. We found Carey and Andrea Northington on the YNAB website under Certified Coaches. Carey and Andrea were patient, kind and gave us new ways to work together. They showered grace upon me, and they were the ministry we needed!”
Jason: “Carey and Andrea were very patient and understanding. Through several meetings, we tackled the things that were dividing us. We’ve still got plenty of work to do. However, we seem to be more on the same page. The work we did with Carey and Andrea, along with the work we are still putting in together, has brought us closer. With that divide being removed, it has also allowed us to be more unified and mutually encouraging in our relationship with God. We are working toward a stewardship mindset with a desire to increase financial literacy to empower others to do the same.”
Diana: “We are praying Carey and Andrea’s wisdom will be passed to our six adult children and six grandchildren – a perpetual legacy for certain. We are grateful for One Master Ministries. We need more Christians in the personal finance arena to help others manage God’s money, His way.”
