Before YNAB, we struggled a ton to be on the same page with finances. Both our backgrounds and the ways we grew up were very different. I was taught that money is for saving and he was taught that money is for spending. We had many issues around spending because he would ask me my thoughts on buying something and I would have no idea how much we had, what we needed to save, how to save, or what to say. I would get really anxious around money and that would cause tension in our marriage.
Our experience meeting with Carey and Andrea was so comforting. It was extremely helpful to learn how to put our money where it needs to go and to do it together as a team. They were very hands on, which is what we wanted, and they left a lot of room for our questions. It was very empowering. The aftermath of our time together has been very redeeming. We want to be one in our finances also, and it has pushed us to make decisions together and feel more freedom in our finances.
It has helped us be more for each other, which is what God wants for us. It has also relieved stress to feel like we need to calculate every time we want to pay for something. We now have specific categories and know how much we can spend on each thing. It is very freeing.
We anticipate being able to continue this practice in our marriage and to exemplify a healthy relationship with money to our kids. We want them to know that we can give and spend and we can save and have boundaries, and that is healthy. We are super excited for some things we have decided to save up for, too!
